Counter Proposals
2021-2023, public art, with Katja Kottmann

For the public art work Counter Proposals we have developed site-specific ideas of fictitious architectures for current construction projects in Berlin and installed them on the fences in front of the respective construction sites.

The project targets high-profile locations like the historical wasteland at Checkpoint Charlie, the Estrel Tower site in Neukölln, and the "Am Winterfeldt" luxury complex.

The project’s envisioned alternatives range from the satirically absurd to the starkly political, serving as a critique of urban displacement and commercial excess. Concepts like the "SUV Daycare" and "Rehab Clinic for Whales" mock the grotesque scale of high-rise developments through surreal humor, while the "Abortion Clinic" and "Institute for Violent Communication" disrupt the narrative of sanitized luxury living by inserting controversial social services and psychological friction directly into the gentrifying landscape.

By scanning a QR code printed on these banners, passersby can unlock an Augmented Reality (AR) experience on their smartphones. This digital overlay superimposes the collective's "counter proposals" directly onto the physical landscape, allowing the public to visualize a radically different use of the space in real-time.
